Scenes From the Road
T.W. and me at the R.T.T.R. 11' on MV

Just Because...
It has been a less than great week and I'd like something different to happen soon!

Abso-Fuckin-Lutley

Down and Out,For Now...
So it finally happened. The ol' girl gave up,she just don't wanna run no more.I should have known it was inevitable but when times are good you don't think of the bad too come.I mean she has taken a beating over the last few weeks let alone over the last 4 years,12 months of the years.
I was heading over to meet up with a crew out of Carver with a buddy when the bike just crapped out. There was a bad metal on metal noise and no power..It would start right up and run but there was no riding it.I ended up pushing it 2 miles to get it home and it has been on the lift ever since.

I got a chance to start the inspection a few days ago. When you rolled it over with the kicker it would sound normal until the intake was about to open then there would be a loud "PING" or "TINK" (See the vid) and after a full cycle it would look up look up
Breakdown
After I got the rocker box off on the intake side I found that there was no movement in the push rods.
After a little more inspection I found that the Tappet Block had spun about 40 degrees to the left and the retaining screw that holds it in place had snapped. When I got it out half of it was still screwed into the jug.I'm assuming that the rest of it is snapped off and still in the Block?!?I had originally thought that it was just a bent push rod or two but they are just fine.I plan on pulling the head and jug this week and see what is going on down below.Crossing my fingers I can get it back on the road in the next few weeks and just get the rest of Summer/fall out of it and then I will defiantly break it down for a rebuild!

Push rods weren't bent but weren't moving either.
The rocker spring to the left side, top here, had come out of the groove holding it in place to retain the rocker had come out.Not a lot of play but maybe an Issue??
Half of the retaining screw is still in the jug.

The retaining screw for the Block was snapped.I need to keep digging to see but I'm guessing that another piece of it is still in the Block as well as the jug?

If you look right next to the wire tie on the frame on top you can just see the Tappet Block in the push rod tube has turned.

If you have ever heard of anything like this happening drop me a line!

This week on Chop Cult...

Mike Painter's Triumph-

Close your eyes and picture Cape Cod. What do you see? Salty seamen in Nor'wester rain gear? Ivy League douchebags in matching blazers? Ed Kennedy wadding up the family sedan in Chappaquiddick? Squint harder. Any beardos on greasy choppers come to mind? Didn't think so. Mike Painter from Wareham, Massachusetts, is working hard to change America's perception of The Cape, one blog at a time.
I met the man behind MassholeMoto.com at the DicE party in Boston last month. Mike and his crusty Triumph struck me as the kind of team that makes an instant impression wherever they go, and this beer-soaked soiree was no exception. I warmed up to the gregarious chopper freak instantly, and picked his brain about the bike and the scene he's built on the shores of American Camelot. Here's his story…

2nd Annual Lowbrow Holeshot

-ACTIVITIES If hanging out with your bros, riding motorcycles, watching racing while camping and drinking isn't enough for you, there are a couple extracurricular activities planned. The Chopper Dirt Track Challenge will be a half time event for the brave souls going head to head on their street choppers for 4 laps (after signing a waiver of course) for the prize of $250 in cash, plus all the glory you can handle. Impress the ladies and fatten your wallet, start practicing and get ready for the podium. After the racing is over for the evening we will be doing free screenings of The Salt Ghost and El Diablo Run videos oudoors under the stars, so don't miss out.
-WHO Everyone is welcome. Ride your new, old, stock, chopper, whatever-kind-of-bike out and have a good time. You are also welcome to trailer out your dirt bike for some riding action on Sunday. Anyone riding a motorcycle in always gets in free to watch the races at Western Reserve Motorcycle Club, but if you are coming for the Lowbrow Holeshot on Saturday, September 24th, 2011 then you get in free regardless of if you are on a bike or in a car.
-WHAT The ... Come on out to the 80+ acres that WRMC inhabits and pitch a tent and camp. Saturday night Flat Track racing practice starts at 4pm with races at 6pm. Hobgoblin Dark Ale is providing us with some kegs and we will have some more beer for when that runs out. The concession stand will also be open during the races and selling beer and food as usual, their food is good and the prices very reasonable. After the races the plan is to drink the night away and have some fun, 30' from the pavillion that will be Lowbrow home-base is the WRMC Clubhouse, with cool bar setup, they will be selling cans of beer for $2 each and we can hang out indoors or out. Sunday morning wake to the sound of two stroke and four stroke fury and hit the trails and track and ride away your hangover, or ride a bit then puke it out like I did last year.

WHEN Saturday, September 24th - Sunday, September 25th 2011. Roll in any time you want Saturday, gates are at 2pm, race practice starts mid afternoon and races at 6pm. Pitch your tent, hang out and have fun.
WHERE The place where it all goes down is the Western Reserve Motorcycle Club. We didn't have to worry about pissing off the club members, they were crazier than we were last year.
HOW Get that junker running and bring what you need, we will have some food and beer, but bring a tent and be self sufficient, we want to have fun too. The concession stand will be open track-side with the food you would expect as well.
MISC If you want to participate in the races on Saturday night you have to fill out your forms and pay as usual, see the WRMC website for details. When you are coming into the club the entrance is split left and right side. Go to the left side and tell them you are there for the Lowbrow party to get your free entry!

Island bound...
Headed to the island,Martha's Vineyard yesterday for the Run to the Rock.Last year was a pretty good time so I figured I take the quick boat ride over and check it out again.Grub is all you can eat, beers are $3 and they do bike games like slow races and weenie bite for the lady's so why the hell not go.Plus this year they added a wet T-shirt contest so it was just that much better...
Waitin for the ferry

The ride is about an hour so grab a beer and find a good spot to sit

Note: For some reason my phone sometimes takes pics that come out sideways.Even when I flip them on my pc they still load into Blogger like this and I'm way to hungover to give a shit.
